Taskbar not hiding in Windows 10 – Step by Step guide
The Windows 10 taskbar is probably displayed on most users systems all the time. The core reason for that is likely that many are unaware that the taskbar can be hidden, and that others prefer a less dynamic interface. Hiding the taskbar makes room for a tiny bit of extra space on the desktop that application windows may use, and if you like your desktop clean and tidy, you may find that it looks better as well.
You can skip to different methods from table of content mentioned above to directly skip to the method you are looking for.
Using full screen mode in Windows 10 is simple. You don’t want any distractions and want to focus on the thing in front of you. People usually go for the full screen mode while playing games or watching videos. You can do both the activities inside your favorite browser like Chrome, or some video player like VLC on your PC.
Let us dive in to various ways to Hide taskbar and fix “taskbar not hiding in Windows 10 error:
The most simplest method is by checking the task bar setting.
Method 1 : Check the Taskbar Settings in Windows 10
Step 1 : Taskbar setting
Press Windows key + I altogether to open Settings
Step 2 : Taskbar setting
Click Personalization, and then Taskbar
Step 3 : Taskbar setting
There are two options that manage the auto-hiding functionality of the Windows 10 taskbar: “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode”
Step 4 : Taskbar setting
Enable “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode”, and the Windows 10 taskbar will be hidden automatically.
Just click on the switch type button under “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and as soon as it turns blue, you taskbar will be hidden.
METHOD 2 – Update and Restart the Windows
Make sure your PC is running the latest version of Windows. Press Windows Key+I to open Settings and click on Update & Security. Like we did in the previous method.
As soon as you click on “Update & Security button” you will be taken into the settings for Windows update.
Click on Windows Update on the right side bar, and then you will see a similar window as shown above. See the above screenshot, I have mentioned 2, just click on “Check for updates”. If your computer have internet connection or else if there are any pre-existing updates remaining which you haven’t made. The system will alert you, just go ahead and update your windows and follow the method 1.
Method 3 – Using Task Manager to fix Taskbar
First, hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc or CTRL + ALT + DELETE and select Task manager to open the Windows Task Manager.
You will find the above window opening, navigate through this basic interface and serach for “Windows Explorer”. Now right click on it, and select Restart. This will restart the Windows explorer and possibly fix the Taskbar not hiding issue.
You can even use Command console to restart the windows explorer, just follow the below 5 steps:
- Use the keyboard shortcut Windows + R to open the runbox.
- Type cmd or command in the runbox.
- Now Type “taskkill /im explorer.exe/f”
- Next, Type explorer
- End by typing, exit.
Method 4 – Using F11 key to go full screen
Sometimes, the taskbar is not the major issue, but having full screen is. To simply go full screen and hide your task bar, search for Function key 11 (also known as F11) on your keyboard. As soon as you click on F11, which ever browser you are on, your full screen will be turned on. This will hide your task bar and you will get your desired screen. But in my opinion using F11 to hide taskbar is temporary solution and needs regular work. So, it is better to move on to another method.
Method 5 – Making necessary changes in Chrome
There can be two different ways to fix your taskbar issue in chrome. Let is dive into them directly without wasting any extra second.
DESELECTING HARDWARE ACCELERATION
The taskbar seems to be giving trouble to the Chrome users too. While watching a YouTube video in fullscreen, do you see the taskbar? If yes, here are a few solutions. Open Chrome’s menu and click on Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on Advanced. As soon as you click on advanced you will find extra options opening downwards.
Under the System heading, deselect ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’ option. As soon as you click on it, it will turn disable, now click on Relaunch button.
Now try going full screen on you desired website. Task bar won’t be troubling you any more.
In the above method, we used the advanced bar to hide the task bar. But in several cases there is an issue which usually don’t resolve due to glitch. You do not need to worry. Just go to google chrome setting and search for “Reset and clean up”.
Click on Reset settings to their original defaults as you can see above. Then there will be a pop up on your screen.
Remember, by resetting your google, you will reset all the search engine, pinned tabs, new tab page and much more things. But you do not need to be worried about Bookmarks, history and saved password, they remain untouched. Just click on “Reset Settings“. This will reset all the settings of google chrome to default. Then you can follow the above steps mentioned under “DESELECTING HARDWARE ACCELERATION“.
