Taskbar not hiding in Windows 10 – Step by Step guide

Table of Contents

The Windows 10 taskbar is probably displayed on most users systems all the time. The core reason for that is likely that many are unaware that the taskbar can be hidden, and that others prefer a less dynamic interface. Hiding the taskbar makes room for a tiny bit of extra space on the desktop that application windows may use, and if you like your desktop clean and tidy, you may find that it looks better as well.

You can skip to different methods from table of content mentioned above to directly skip to the method you are looking for.

Using full screen mode in Windows 10 is simple. You don’t want any distractions and want to focus on the thing in front of you. People usually go for the full screen mode while playing games or watching videos. You can do both the activities inside your favorite browser like Chrome, or some video player like VLC on your PC.

Make sure your PC is running the latest version of Windows. Press Windows Key+I to open Settings and click on Update & Security. Like we did in the previous method.

Windows update and security (windows setting)

As soon as you click on “Update & Security button” you will be taken into the settings for Windows update.

Windows update

Click on Windows Update on the right side bar, and then you will see a similar window as shown above. See the above screenshot, I have mentioned 2, just click on “Check for updates”. If your computer have internet connection or else if there are any pre-existing updates remaining which you haven’t made. The system will alert you, just go ahead and update your windows and follow the method 1.

Method 3 – Using Task Manager to fix Taskbar

First, hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc or CTRL + ALT + DELETE and select Task manager to open the Windows Task Manager.

You will find the above window opening, navigate through this basic interface and serach for “Windows Explorer”. Now right click on it, and select Restart. This will restart the Windows explorer and possibly fix the Taskbar not hiding issue.

You can even use Command console to restart the windows explorer, just follow the below 5 steps:

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Windows + R to open the runbox.
  • Type cmd or command in the runbox.
  • Now Type “taskkill /im explorer.exe/f”
  • Next, Type explorer
  • End by typing, exit.

Method 4 – Using F11 key to go full screen

Sometimes, the taskbar is not the major issue, but having full screen is. To simply go full screen and hide your task bar, search for Function key 11 (also known as F11) on your keyboard. As soon as you click on F11, which ever browser you are on, your full screen will be turned on. This will hide your task bar and you will get your desired screen. But in my opinion using F11 to hide taskbar is temporary solution and needs regular work. So, it is better to move on to another method.

Method 5 – Making necessary changes in Chrome
